This Saturday’s clash between Millwall and Wrexham is more than just a battle for points. It is also a Pledgeball fixture, where fans’ actions off the pitch help their club climb the Pledgeball League table.
At this weekend’s match, Millwall will be formally presented with their award for winning last season’s Pledgeball League. Across the campaign, fans from all clubs made over 28,000 pledges to live more sustainably. Millwall supporters led the way, pledging an incredible 706,726 kgCO₂e in carbon savings. That is the equivalent of taking 175 cars off the road for an entire year.
Now in its fifth season, the Pledgeball League challenges fans to back their team by making simple, everyday lifestyle pledges that reduce their carbon footprint. Examples include switching to reusable water bottles or cutting down on car journeys. The club whose supporters pledge the most carbon savings wins the fixture and climbs the league table, while fans are also entered into a prize draw.
Pledgeball will be on the ground at The Den on Saturday, engaging supporters, running activities, and collecting pledges live on the day. Fans can also pledge online before midnight on matchday to be in with a chance of winning prizes and helping their club up the table.
Katie Cross, CEO of Pledgeball, said:
“Last season’s incredible effort from Millwall fans shows the power of football supporters to drive change. We’re delighted to present Millwall with this award and to kick off another season where fans across the country can show what their clubs mean to them, both on and off the pitch.”
