Protect where we play
An award-winning sports sustainability charity with a proven track record of empowering fans and players to Protect Where We Play

We work closely with leading academic experts to ensure that everything we do is backed and is guided by robust data and research.
We also collaborate with a wide range of sports stakeholders to maximise our impact.

Since 2022, we have been partnered with the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) to raise awareness about the relationship between football and the climate crisis, while supporting fans who want to make the game greener. As part of this partnership, we launched the Sustainable Travel Charter, which focuses on reducing the environmental footprint of clubs’ travel, and we play an active role in the FSA Green Working Group.

We liaise with dozens of football and rugby union clubs, too, including Bristol City, Dundee United, Millwall, Norwich City, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff Rugby, and Dragons RFC. In addition, we have official partnerships with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), International Biathlon Union (IBU), and Birmingham County FA.

We team up with football governing bodies and league associations to drive climate action across the sport. From engaging entire leagues to helping shape and implement sustainability policies, we work to accelerate real change—on the pitch, behind the scenes, and everywhere in between.

Major campaigns and initiatives
Alongside the Football Association (FA), EFL, Women’s Super League, and 80 clubs, Pledgeball is also a founding member of Green Football Weekend, an annual campaign that aims to use the power of football to tackle climate change. Meanwhile, during the 2023/24 season, we teamed up with UEFA and Mastercard to launch the Champions Innovate Pledge League — bringing the Pledgeball League to the pinnacle of European football and reaching an incredible 6.2 million fans in the process.
Pledgeball was named Grassroots Organisation of the Year at the prestigious BBC Green Sports Awards 2024 in recognition of our “commitment to sustainability and innovative approach to engaging sports fans”.
These efforts have not gone unnoticed, earning significant attention within the worlds of sports and sustainability. Our projects have attracted extensive press and media coverage, while we continue to deliver workshops to different stakeholders on subjects as diverse as fan engagement and the psychology of behaviour change.
