First Football Sustainability Roadshow Comes to West Yorkshire: A New Era for Football Fans

Football is more than just a game; it’s a community, a lifestyle, and a powerful force for change. Recognising this, we are bringing our commitment to sustainability directly to the fans with its First Football Sustainability Roadshow.

The event will be held at Huddersfield Town’s John Smith’s Stadium on Monday, December 9th, at 6:00 PM, and it promises to be an evening of interactive dialogue and action.

Who Can Attend?
The event is open to all football fans in West Yorkshire. Whether you’re a devoted Huddersfield Town supporter, cheer for Leeds United or Bradford City, follow the local non-league teams or support a different club entirely, your voice matters.

What’s Happening?

Attendees will participate in two engaging workshops:

  • Identifying Sustainability Challenges: Fans will share their observations on the most pressing environmental issues within the sport.
  • Creating Solutions: A collaborative space where practical, fan-driven ideas for sustainable practices are developed.

Why Does It Matter?

The impact of climate change on football is becoming more evident, from flooded stadiums to increased energy expenses. While clubs are making strides by adopting sustainability practices such as the Sustainable Travel Charter, fans are an essential piece of the puzzle. They have been vocal about issues, such as opposing fast fashion in merchandise and resisting unnecessary expansion of tournaments.

Ahead of the event, Pledgeball CEO Katie Cross said: “Our goal is to make sure that the voices of fans and community groups are at the heart of football’s sustainability efforts. The roadshow is a vital step toward that goal, and we’re excited about the potential to take it nationwide.”

A spokesperson for the Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association (HTSA) added: “Sustainability isn’t just about big ideas, debates, and policies; it also entails smaller, practical steps that we can all take. It means supporting local institutions, buying from local businesses, and taking pride in your local environment — all things that come naturally to football fans. We are delighted, then, that this innovative new roadshow will take place in Huddersfield at the new H Town fan bar. It presents a perfect opportunity for fans to work together to safeguard the clubs and game we all love for generations to come.”
