With this year’s World Cup set to be the largest ever in terms of teams and mileage, Pledgeball have launched their most expansive project to date. That is, a 5-part docuseries exploring the idea:
If a fan wanted to follow their team all the way to the final without taking a single flight, could they actually pull it off?
We’ve been following football YouTubers Laurence McKenna and Alex Moneypenny as they follow Spain’s potential knockout route, heading from Los Angeles, to Dallas, and eventually over to New York, exploring all means of transport.
It’s an unbelievable journey that has already been filled with a lot of laughs and drama, but it’s not just a travel vlog. We’re using the road trip to spark a much bigger conversation. We look at the brutal logistics and extreme heat fans will actually face on the ground, and question how much longer these large scale tournaments will be feasible.
We may well be exploring the growing disconnect between mega-tournaments expanding for profit and the grassroots fans who keep the game alive, but this is pure entertainment and behind the scenes insight – we’ve been meeting some brilliant people (like the Phoenix Rising players, including Caracao International Jearl Margaritha, about to grace the World Cup stage) and communities along the way. It’s fun, and accessible to anyone.
