Partnering with rugby clubs to create a more sustainable sport
Pledgeball works with rugby clubs, such as Cardiff Rugby, Bristol Bears, Dragons RFC and Leeds Rhinos, to promote sustainability across the sport. Our main goal is to inspire fans to adopt and champion eco-friendly practices in their daily lives by making pledges for Pledgeball fixtures.
A standout example of success is our partnership with Dragons RFC, which we launched in the 2023/24 season, resulting in fans pledging to save 520,000 kg of carbon emissions annually. With our support, the club has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability by implementing several initiatives with local businesses and organisations to reduce the environmental impact of supporter travel, including Stagecoach South Wales, Newport Transport, Transport for Wales, and Momentwm Newport Live. They have also teamed up with academics from Cardiff University to survey Dragons RFC fans about their transport preferences for home games. The club earned recognition for its efforts by winning the Best Sustainability Initiative at the Welsh Sports Association Sports Industry Awards 2024.
