We’re hiring – Head of Communications and Social Media 

Pledgeball is looking to appoint a Head of Communications and Social Media to drive our messaging and engagement as we continue to grow. As a rapidly expanding charity—and the proud recipient of the BBC Green Sport Award: Organisation of the Year—we need a strategic communicator to amplify our impact and support our passionate team.

Job title: Head of Communications and Social Media 
Salary: £35,000 (London weighting available)
Hours: 40 hrs per week 
Job location: UK-based. Flexible, with 1 day minimum in Bristol or London office
Responsible to: CEO 
Responsible for: Freelance Content Creators and Communications Team (currently consisting of volunteers)

If so, we have an exciting opportunity as Head of Communications and Social Media at Pledgeball! As Head of Communications and Social Media, you will be at the forefront of implementing and adapting our communication strategy, and elevating our brand presence. Your role will be integral to our mission, as you drive our communication efforts, build our fan audience and our brand identity, and engage our audiences effectively. 

We’re looking for a professional who will effectively engage football and sports fans across our social media platforms, as well as a variety of stakeholders across a wide range of communication channels, from fans to businesses. As a young charity, we are looking for an individual who is willing to take the initiative, take ownership of the communications and social media, and be flexible in their role, potentially supporting on aspects that do not fit within the job title, supporting the CEO in the varied work of Pledgeball.

The job will involve (but is not limited to):

Shape and share the Pledgeball story: Develop a compelling narrative for Pledgeball and communicate it widely across all platforms, making sure our vision and impact are clear and inspiring.

Maximise the power of partnerships: Understand how our collaborations and donors contribute to our story, turning these relationships into media opportunities that strengthen and amplify our mission.

Lead with creativity and strategy: Bring fresh ideas and a strategic mindset to long-term storytelling while staying agile enough to connect Pledgeball with relevant cultural moments as they happen. Thrive under pressure and keep things moving in a dynamic environment.

Content and storytelling: Build out Pledgeball’s voice and vision through creative content that brings our values to life.

Fan and community connection: Spark meaningful interaction with our global audience and local communities, making everyone feel part of the Pledgeball movement.

Media and communications strategy: Oversee all communications, ensuring our messaging is innovative, consistent, and stands out in the football and sustainability space.

Press and media relations: Manage relationships with media outlets to keep Pledgeball at the forefront of key conversations within sports, sustainability, and culture.

Pledgeball is a young award-winning, research-backed charity that works with stakeholders across the sports community, from clubs to County FAs, from fans including partners the Football Supporters’ Association to UEFA and the Lawn Tennis Association, to raise awareness and motivate fans to take action on climate and environmental sustainability. The team currently consists of a CEO, 2 members of staff and a volunteer team of around 15-20 people.

We offer flexible hours, as well as the ability to enjoy offices located in central Bristol and London, and to work from home.
